Reading the results

Rows distinguish measurements, listening grades, field observations, manufacturer specifications and estimates, and trade-body accounts. Room size, seating extent, coverage percentage and transmitter-to-receiver distance are different quantities. Read each result with its conditions and evidence type; rows from the same test are not independent replications. The outdoor cellular-streaming observations do not measure Wi-Fi range. (Pro Audito Schweiz 2025; Ciolek and Covington 2008; Aura by Opus 2025; Pro Audito Schweiz 2026)

Codebook

result_id

Unique key formed from the source id and a result suffix. Hall suffixes identify original workbook cells; Parliament House suffixes identify Table 1 area references.

technology

Library technology label. Shared identifies cellular streaming or its final personal Bluetooth link; these rows are not Wi-Fi coverage evidence.

system

Transmitter, installed system or signal path, including firmware where the source supplies it.

setting

Venue and occupancy/environment as reported. Absence of event interference does not establish an audience count.

distance_or_area

Original distance, dimensions, coverage band, seating extent or a statement that the extent is unknown. Units and qualifiers stay with the value. Room size is context, not a measured radio range.

outcome

Source-attributed reception result or stated specification, including failures and qualifications. Hall grades are preserved here.

receiver

Tested or specified receiver/device, firmware and assistant path where provided. A list means the source reports a shared result without separate measurements for each device.

evidence_type

Distinguishes observations, measurements, subjective listening grades, specifications, estimates and trade-body reports; definitions below.

test_date

Actual test date only: YYYY-MM-DD, YYYY-MM, YYYY, or not reported. Publication dates are never substituted.

source_date

Date of the cited publication or document version, at its supported precision, or undated. A linked manual can have a different date from its library record's main page.

source_date_basis

Identifies publication, issue, version, copyright, file metadata or upload-folder dates and known revision ambiguity.

source_id

Library source identifiers supporting the row, separated by semicolons. Feature-specific and supporting-source columns retain their more precise roles.

source_locator

Original page, section, table or model entry supporting the row; source names identify locations when several originals are used.

funding_detail

Funding and producer context retained from the earlier compilation; the funding column carries the current source-record labels.

conditions

Method, power, mounting, channel count, sample or other conditions supplied by the source.

limitations

Row-specific interpretation limits and source-record reading limits. Missing information is not reported, never an inferred zero.

source_summary_inclusion

included or excluded only for the Pro Audito hall workbook's overall evaluation; not applicable elsewhere. Both excluded scored pairs remain in the CSV.

scope

venue system, venue system; cellular streaming, or shared-path comparison. The last category includes consumer/personal transmitters tested in the hall and the phone-to-hearing-aid link after a venue stream; it is evidence about a shared path.

funding

Source-record funding labels. With multiple primary sources, each label is followed by its source id in brackets. Funding detail remains in funding_detail where supplied by the earlier compilation.

Compilation and interpretation

range.csv was compiled and independently audited on 2026-10-13 against 26 existing library records and their archived originals. It contains 126 rows: individual hall-test pairs and audited loop areas, field observations, explicit numerical product claims, expert estimates, and attributed venue accounts. The audit added supporting passages and corrected source details in existing records. No new source records or question pages were added.

The file is UTF-8, comma-separated, with one header row, quoted fields and LF line endings. Import fields as text to preserve partial dates, qualifiers and source identifiers. not reported means the source does not provide that item; it never means zero. not applicable is reserved for a field that does not apply. No formulas or unit conversions are embedded.

Evidence types

ValueMeaning
field measurementInstrumented result in an installed venue; here, the Parliament House loop audit.
listening testReception graded by listening to a test signal; here, the Pro Audito hall matrix.
field observationFirst-hand reception report without a numerical measurement protocol for spatial coverage.
manufacturer-reported measurementA maker explicitly reports a test or measurement, but the underlying protocol/data are unavailable.
manufacturer specificationMaker's stated range or area without a published test establishing it.
manufacturer estimateMaker's predicted change under a stated configuration.
expert estimatePractical estimate in expert guidance without a reported measurement series.
trade-body claimGeneric range statement from a trade body.
trade-body venue reportA trade body's account of a demonstration or venue experience, without independent coverage measurements.

Reading the results

  • Independent hearing-loss association Pro Audito's hall workbook contains 53 scored pairs. The association reports no manufacturer funding; manufacturers lent test products without charge. Nine score 1, eight score 2, nine score 3, eleven score 4 and sixteen score 5. Excluding H8 and J9 as its authors do leaves 51 pairs, with 16 scoring 1 or 2 and 26 scoring 4 or 5. Blank cells and row/column averages are not results. Grades 1 and 2 permit some dropouts or artefacts; they do not mean uninterrupted reception. Grade descriptions give approximate symptom distances, not a measured maximum range for each pair. Device labels retain source spellings except the expanded Williams name, whitespace, unknown-firmware wording, and the shortened Starkey Edge model label. Exact cells identify the original names. (Pro Audito Schweiz 2025)
  • The Government audit by Parliament House's own staff has 31 area rows: nine assigned to the 80-100% category, three to 20-80%, three below 20%, and sixteen with low base level and excessive attenuation. The last category has no numeric coverage percentage. The Cabinet room is among the nine top grades, but Appendix A31 says it was only partially tested with low-level pink noise and refers to earlier commissioning. Its grade is not a complete measured coverage result from this audit. The general procedure adjusted amplifiers before measurement. These are the audit's signal-coverage grades, not a complete assessment against the loop standard. Measurement dates are unstated; 2008 is the report year. (Ciolek and Covington 2008)
  • Hall dimensions, seating capacity, percent coverage and transmitter-to-receiver distance are different quantities. Do not convert a 22 x 80 m room into an 80 m range, infer a coverage radius from a seat count, or pool these rows into a technology average. Multiple rows often come from the same test and are not independent replications. (Pro Audito Schweiz 2025), (Pro Audito Schweiz 2025), (Bluetooth SIG Market Development 2025)
  • The outdoor 5G result describes venue-wide internet reception with high delay. Its separate phone-to-hearing-aid row records interruptions after that stage. Neither row measures Wi-Fi range. No spatial Wi-Fi measurement was found in the reviewed library material. (Pro Audito Schweiz 2026)
  • Manufacturer Opus's AuraLoop product page gives a 3 m loop range while its linked manual gives 1.10 m. Both claims are retained; their methods and thresholds are not stated. (Aura by Opus 2025)

The table excludes legal coverage requirements, recommended transmitter spacing, loop-design width limits, simulations, overspill outside the intended listening area, installation inventories, operational audits without spatial results, receiver/user capacity and speech scores measured in a room without a coverage test. Repeated generic claims are represented by the more specific primary product source where available. The research note records exclusions and remaining gaps. Refresh by checking the source record and its archived original, preserving earlier dated results when conditions or firmware differ.

Change log

  • 2026-10-14: Made the funding and producer context explicit in the cited range interpretation notes.
  • 2026-10-13: Migrated 126 rows with codebook and source provenance into the data section.
