Summary
A short hands-on test of a mid-priced Auracast transmitter and its clip receivers, with latency measured through hearing aids and receivers.
Key findings
- Measured latency was 65 to 75 ms through the hearing aids used, 65 ms with the maker's AuraClip receivers and 57 ms with the fastest receiver tested. Pro Audito put this in the range of professional transmitters with those hearing aids.
- In a short test, range was comparable to professional transmitters; no distances are given.
- The software sets the name, PIN code and quality (24 kHz standard for hearing aids, 48 kHz high quality for headphones and some hearing aids), generates a QR code or the URI string, and sends the PIN code wirelessly to the supplied AuraClip receivers when they are switched on (the test setup and configuration-software findings).
- The receivers worked with ordinary inductive neck loops, with about 8 hours of battery life when driving one; the maker offered no inductive neck loops of its own at the time.
- Gaps noted: no signal-level meter in the software or on the transmitter, which makes the correct level harder to set; no balanced inputs; no wall or ceiling mounting. Pro Audito placed the system between consumer TV streamers and professional transmitters.
- Gives a retail price of about CHF 120 for the transmitter.
- The introduction states that the unpaid test used one Oasis Aura transmitter and three AuraClip receivers with a charging station and cables, supplied free by Avantree. The number and models of hearing aids used are not stated.
Limits
Short test of one system supplied free by the manufacturer; the page does not specify whether the devices were loaned or given. Firmware, test room, distances and hearing-aid models are not stated. In German.
