Summary
New York City's annually updated list of assistive listening systems in city facilities, giving each room's system type, status and, for some, the cost reported by the agency.
Key findings
- Lists 1,401 rooms or desks in facilities of 34 city agencies, all reported in 2025. Of these, 1,144 are in Department of Education schools: 996 with FM (912 installed) and 148 with loops (37 installed, the rest in design, bidding or construction), the loops mostly in cafeterias (66) and at security desks (63).
- Outside the schools, its 257 entries are mostly loops of various kinds (152, including counter, desktop and portable loops), then FM or other radio systems (50), infrared (43), combinations (10) and two others.
- Gives a price in 366 entries: 365 plain numeric cost cells and one per-room amount. In ald-list.csv, data row 1391 (header excluded) lists $11,287 each for Hearing Rooms 1-18 at the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings, 260 East 161st Street, 6th Floor, Bronx; it labels the system Induction Loop, status Installed and installation March-20. The remaining 1,035 cost cells are 953 blank, 67 Included Above and 15 TBD. Reported costs for entries labelled induction loop range from $300 to $241,117; the highest are school cafeteria loops in design or construction, such as $241,117 and $150,000, and a school auditorium loop at $163,000.
- Other reported costs range from $313 to $10,100 for entries labelled counter loop, $1,200 to $120,000 for school FM entries (the highest a gymnasium under construction), $1,259 to $26,850 for FM systems elsewhere, and $144 to $22,000 for entries labelled infrared system.
- Its loop entries give installation dates from 2018 to 2025.
- In ald-list.csv, restricting non-school rows to the exact label FM System gives $1,892 to $26,850; including FM System (NADY ALD-800) adds the Law Department room 2-160 entry at $1,259.
- Among the 366 price-bearing data rows, the status counts are 149 Installed, 91 In Construction, 72 In Design, 52 Under Construction and two Bid & Award. Every row's Year Reported is 2025; Date Installed is a separate field. Neither field identifies a price year, and an Installed status does not identify a paid invoice.
- The priced school entries identify rooms including auditoria, cafeterias, gymnasia, security desks, multipurpose rooms, dance studios and a playroom. Their system labels are FM or Induction Loop, without equipment specifications; the FM label alone does not establish a dedicated venue receiver design. The file also has prices for mixed FM/loop systems and a Law Department entry with its system marked TBD. Shared-cost markers and repeated room entries do not establish financially independent project totals.
Limits
Self-reported by agencies, with no statement of what each cost covers (equipment, design, installation, building work, receivers), so costs are not comparable between entries; many entries have no cost, and installation dates, where given, run from 2015 to 2026. The counts above were made from the list's downloadable data file (ald-list.csv) as read on 9 October 2026; the page states it was last updated on 2 January 2026.
