Summary

Maps what was published about Auracast and hearing aids in public places between June 2022 and April 2025, following JBI and PRISMA-ScR methods.

Key findings

  • Searched scientific databases and grey literature for the single keyword "Auracast"; 348 records were found and 17 documents published from 2023 to 2025 were included.
  • Most included documents were technical, descriptive or opinion pieces from manufacturers, conferences and advocates; the authors report a significant gap in clinical or experimental studies of Auracast's effect on hearing, listening effort or hearing-aid use in real-world settings.
  • Several included sources tie wide adoption to IEC 60118-17, which they report as expected in December 2027.
  • Notes that, at the time of the review, Auracast-enabled hearing aids were not available in product lines for children.
  • Calls for studies in schools, healthcare and transport settings, and of how Auracast works alongside remote microphones and telecoils.

Limits

The search used only the term "Auracast" and only freely available full texts in Portuguese, English or Spanish, up to April 2025. Many included documents are not peer-reviewed, and the review does not grade their quality.
