Key findings

  • Quotes Dr Juliette Sterkens: it will take a decade or longer before Auracast assistive listening transmitters become commonplace, and users need a complete Auracast "ecosystem", not only new hearing aids.
  • Quotes Dr Peter Mapp: loops and telecoils will be needed for at least 10 years, and it is too early to say whether Auracast systems will deliver what hard-of-hearing users need.
  • Says it is too soon to say whether each installation can meet the ADA, partly because the international standard is not expected until late 2027, and estimates that 95% of users do not yet have hearing instruments with Auracast.
  • Tracks IEC 60118-17, the coming standard for 2.4 GHz streaming assistive listening, which it says is scheduled for late 2027.
  • Names its contributors with their roles, among them Peter Mapp as an assistive listening design consultant and Juliëtte Sterkens as an audiologist (AuD).
