Auracast frequently asked questions

  • Bluetooth SIG

Trade body (Bluetooth SIG marketing material; the SIG is an industry association funded by its member companies and owns the Auracast trademark)

Summary

The SIG's answers to common questions about Auracast.

Key findings

  • To the question "Is Auracast broadcast audio ADA compliant?" it answers "Absolutely", stating that Auracast is "fully recognized as a compliant ALS technology under the ADA" because the ADA sets performance-based standards rather than a list of technologies and Auracast is a standards-based radio frequency system.
  • Says any number of in-range receivers can join one broadcast without loss of quality, because the transmitter sends a single signal.
  • Products qualified to the Public Broadcast Profile that meet the Brand Guide requirements can be licensed to use the Auracast trademarks.
  • In the FAQ on the required Bluetooth version, the SIG says a product needs specific Bluetooth Core 5.2 features and the Public Broadcast Profile from the LE Audio specifications; a Bluetooth version number alone does not establish Auracast support.
  • In the FAQ on upgrading existing Bluetooth devices, the SIG says field upgrades depend on the device's underlying capabilities and the supplier's product strategy; it has no visibility into specific suppliers' plans.
  • In the FAQs on finding/selecting broadcasts and supported devices, the SIG describes assistants such as phones, watches or hearing-aid remotes scanning advertisements, showing available broadcasts and giving a receiver the information to join. The interface may be in the operating system or an app.
  • In the FAQ on receiver numbers and bandwidth, the SIG says adding in-range receivers requires no additional broadcast bandwidth because the transmitter sends one signal; this is the trade body's explanation, not an occupied-venue capacity test.
