What Is AudioLink XT and How Is It Different From AudioLink?

Summary

MED-EL's comparison of its two connectivity accessories for cochlear implant processors, including the telecoil built into the newer AudioLink XT.

Key findings

  • AudioLink works with the SONNET, SONNET 2 and RONDO 3 processors. AudioLink XT works directly with SONNET 3, and with older processors through AudioStream or the AudioStream Adapter.
  • AudioLink XT has an integrated telecoil, which MED-EL calls "ideal for hearing well in large, echoey venues"; the original AudioLink has none.
  • AudioLink XT receives FM with a plug-in FM Adapter, where AudioLink needed an FM cover on the processor, and MED-EL gives its range as 10-15 m against 3 m.
  • Both devices work as remote microphones and stream from non-smart TVs; AudioLink XT can also stream to an ASHA-compatible hearing aid on the other ear.
  • Quotes a SONNET 3 user who, at some meetings, plugs in "a personal telecoil loop supplied by the venue" and streams the proceedings to the implant.

Limits

A maker's blog post about its own accessories, with user quotes chosen by the maker. It gives no measurements of the telecoil's sensitivity or frequency response and does not mention Auracast (MED-EL's April 2025 post on Auracast is a separate record).
