Summary
The 2017 amendment replaces the small-volume systems clause and explains the trade-off between counter coverage and spill to adjacent counters.
Key findings
- The IEC catalogue dates the amendment 9 November 2017. The European endorsement in the preview states that the IEC text was adopted without modification.
- Replaces clause 9 on small-volume systems. Clause 9.1 specifies measurement points for call points and counters, with an alternative useful magnetic field volume method where the specified points are impractical, to be agreed in the contract.
- Clause 9.3 makes the user-facing surface of the counter the reference position, which need not coincide with the magnetic field source. Counter measurement points are specified in Figure 3, which is outside the preview read.
- Clause 9.3 says controlling spill to an adjacent counter can require a compromise in field evenness across the area where people stand. Its first note says a difference greater than 20 dB between equivalent positions at the two counters is normally enough, and relates this to the acoustic spill between counters.
- The following notes say listening-area boundaries depend on the counter and building layout, and that setting a vertical loop back from the counter reference position improves field evenness but reduces control of spill to the next counter.
Limits
Only IEC catalogue metadata and a nine-page public preview of SIST EN IEC 60118-4:2015/A1:2018 were read. The preview reproduces IEC amendment pages 2-5, including clause 9.3, but stops before Figure 3 and clauses 9.4-9.5. It therefore does not resolve the numeric field-tolerance differences in secondary summaries. The preview URL is https://cdn.standards.iteh.ai/samples/64211/23d29fa559a84a70bcdf3f442d9e71f5/SIST-EN-IEC-60118-4-2015-A1-2018.pdf. The adjacent-counter note is a relative difference, not an absolute waiting-area field limit or a privacy test.
