Summary

A two-page HLAA checklist telling listeners how to prepare for, check and give feedback on assistive listening at a venue, including venue-provided receivers and neckloops.

Key findings

  • Asks listeners to find out beforehand which assistive listening systems their hearing devices can connect to, which settings or other devices they need, and how to troubleshoot them, asking their audiologist if unsure.
  • Before going, advises checking whether and what type of assistive listening is available, and bringing what they may need, such as charged hearing devices and phone, a personal neckloop, a personal headset or a cable for a streamer.
  • On arrival, advises looking for signs or asking staff, checking that the system works at the place where equipment is collected if the venue provides audio there (step 3), and making sure the controls of venue equipment are easy to reach and adjust.
  • If something is not working, advises asking staff for help, adjusting the volume, reconnecting, trying a different receiver, neckloop or headset, and moving seats, while noting that listeners "should not have to search for appropriate seating".
  • Asks listeners to judge whether voices are clear and steady and whether the equipment was comfortable enough to use again, and to give feedback through HLAA's feedback form.
