Summary
Australia’s 2025-26 heritage grant guidelines explicitly allow hearing loops as an accessibility activity at National Heritage List places, subject to the project and applicant rules.
Key findings
- The cover gives a Round 8 opening date of 27 October 2025 and a closing deadline of 5 pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time on 5 December 2025. Section 3.2, page 7, requires projects to finish by 31 March 2028.
- Grants range from A$25,000 to A$400,000 excluding GST. Applicants normally contribute at least 20% of eligible project costs in cash or in kind, with an exceptional-circumstances exemption process.
- Applicants must own a listed place or provide current owner support, have an Australian Business Number unless not entitled to one, and belong to an eligible entity category. Eligible locations are on the National Heritage List by the closing date.
- Section 5.1, page 9, lists hearing loops among accessibility improvements. Activities must relate to protecting, conserving, engaging with or managing access to the listed place’s National Heritage Values.
- Eligible costs can include contractors, expert advice and materials or equipment. The grant agreement and budget govern expenditure; ongoing organisational operating costs and retrospective funding or works underway are excluded.
- The grant does not itself provide planning or heritage approvals. The government is not responsible for expenditure incurred before a grant agreement is executed.
Limits
Full guidelines saved; relevant eligibility, cost and date pages read and visually checked. The stated December 2025 deadline has passed; the guidelines are not a later closure notice or evidence of the October 2026 application status. Listed heritage places only; hearing-loop inclusion does not establish eligibility of every venue, project or alternative technology.
